Photographs  by Martin Avery

My sculptures are influenced by the statuesque, beautifully flecked, Martagon Lily and the natural heath landscape  near to where I live which also inspires my colour palette of greens and lavenders.

I like the technical aspect of ceramics, mixing colours and clays, adding grogs and textured inclusions to provide finishes which are reminiscent of the forest lanscape.  It is important to me that the internal surface of each sculpture reflects the external surface and I achieve this by my technique of using coloured clay throughout the body rather than surface layering.

My design developments are based on the curves and flowing lines of the Martagon Lily.
